Are you truly aware of your surroundings? When Friday night rolls around, what do your
plans consist of? Do you sit around with
people who have no ambition? Are they
happy with where they are at in life? Do
they complain about every single event in their life? They can’t see anything good. They say things like, “if it weren’t for bad
luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all?”
When you leave their presence, do you feel worse than when you got
there? Do they encourage you? Do they motivate you to follow after your
dreams or do they make excuses as to why you’ll never accomplish them? I have learned the importance of a strong
support group. A net to catch you when
you fall. Friends to lift you up when
you hit rock bottom. It’s important as you go through life to surround yourself
with those that want what is best for you.
The Bible even tells us the importance of our surroundings:
"Do not fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you." (1 Corinthians 15:33)
(Proverbs 13:20)
"Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise but the companion of fools
will suffer harm."
Forbes Magazine states that the fastest way to change
yourself is to hang out with people who are already the way you want to
be.
Do you want to be like those around you? If not, I highly recommend that you become
more aware of your surroundings. Begin
to expand your circle to include those that are a model of what you want your
life to represent. Jim Rohn quotes: “We are the average of the five people we
spend the most time with.” Choose
carefully. If you have kids, pay careful
attention to what you place before them and who you place before them. They are watching and listening more than you
realize. Little feet will follow
so watch the path you place before them.
